Anxiety Counselling Wicklow
My approach to helping clients who are experiencing anxiety includes providing a space in which to off-load and to process what is going on. I provide personalised anxiety counselling for people living in Wicklow. I often use a CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) for anxiety counselling as this modality can be very helpful when exploring the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that might be associated with, contributing to, or exacerbating levels of anxiety. CBT and other forms of therapy also provide good skills and strategies that can aid the management of anxiety. We are easily accessible in Wexford and welcome people living Wicklow.
Anxiety is a very common reaction or response to states such as stress, uncertainty, threat or fear. Moderate and intermittent anxiety can actually be helpful in a lot of situations as it can prompt good preparation or problem solving. However, too much anxiety can have a negative impact on all aspects of health and adversely impact day-to-day living.
Many factors can lead to anxiety. These include things that happen in life that might be experienced as stressful or traumatic. Some people are more predisposed or susceptible through personality characteristics, brain chemistry, thinking habits or genetics. A heightened vulnerability can also come through substance misuse and some medical conditions.
Anxiety can have a range of symptoms that affect people physically, mentally and emotionally. These include feeling overwhelmed, having poor sleep, physical mental and emotional states of tension, being irritable, avoiding people, places, things or situations, nervous perspiration, headaches, poor motivation, finding it hard to concentrate, feeling restless or uneasy, feeling on edge or worrying a lot, nausea, racing pulse and shallow breathing.
If anxiety becomes excessive, extreme or prolonged, it can interfere with day-to-day living, impact health and potentially develop into an anxiety disorder such as Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or intense phobias. Depending on the type, duration or severity of anxiety being experienced, medical advice may need to be sought.
Early intervention can not only prevent development of more serious anxiety disorders, but symptom management can ensure improved quality and enjoyment of life. Alleviation, help and support could come from such things as communicating with friends and family, attending a support group, taking regular exercise, ensuring good sleep, a balanced diet, a moderate intake of alcohol and caffeine, practicing meditation, mindfulness or breathing exercises.
