My Professional Profile
My Qualifications: MIACP (Accredited Member of the IACP – Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy); DipCouns/Psych (Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy); BA (Bachelor of Arts degree); BEd (Bachelor of Education degree); CertAgr (Certificate in Agriculture). I am also a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society.
My training as a Psychotherapist was undertaken in a leading college specialising in Psychotherapy. I augment this on a very regular basis with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and excellent Professional Collaboration. I hold CPD certificates amounting to over 800 hours of further psychotherapy and psychology-related education and training - including in: CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Suicide Prevention and Mindfulness.
My Professional Approach
I have a passion for the improvement of mental health and wellbeing in the community, and am committed to providing professional, non-judgemental, confidential, adaptable and affordable services. All of my work is supported by regular Expert Collaboration, Professional and Public Liability Insurance and by an on-going commitment to Continuing Professional Development.
My approach to Psychotherapy is Person-Centred and Integrative. This means I draw from a range of techniques and therapies including: CBT, EFT, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic, Gestalt and Existential, to practice a holistic, down-to-earth style of therapy; blending clinical expertise with sensitivity, perception, intuition and humour if appropriate.
The Psychotherapy and Training Services I offer are underpinned by more than 25 years experience working and studying in the ‘helping professions’ of: Teaching, Mentoring, and Tutoring secondary school and adult learners; and Facilitating addiction recovery groups, men’s groups, and cancer patient peer support groups.
I always endeavour to facilitate healing, peace of mind, and a sense of wholeness and well-being. The Values, Principles and Code of Ethics set down by the IACP guide all my Policies, Procedures and Practices. Thus, a culture of Professionalism, Respect, Competence, Integrity and Best Practice supports the delivery of all my services, administration and record keeping.
My Logo
The Circle has been used as a symbol to represent timelessness and spacelessness – the eternal ‘NOW’ – with no beginning and no end. It has also been used to represent the totality and unity of ‘the self’: the body, the mind (or psyche) and the spirit; and also the relationship between humans and the universe. Keywords associated with the circle include: fulfilment, oneness, inclusion, completion, totality, wholeness, infinity, perfection and origin.
The Square has been used to represent the ‘Earth’ as opposed to the ‘Heavens’. It is a symbol of the physical body, the physical world, earthly existence and of reality. The square has also been used to represent form and order within the universe; the union of the four elements: earth, air, fire, water; and the attainment of unity. Some Keywords associated with the square include: simplicity, balance, straightforwardness, stability, integrity, ethics, principles, direction and dependability.
Squaring the circle symbolises humanity’s instinctive quest to harmonise our physical and spiritual natures. The connection between these two primary forms expresses balance and the union of time and timelessness, Yin and Yang.
The Triangle The bullet points throughout my site are actually a stylised Celtic letter ‘d’ or a Greek ‘delta’glyph. This is symbolic of a doorway where the balancing of thought and emotion provide a pathway to higher wisdom. The triangle has also been used to represent the threefold nature of the Universe: Heaven, Earth and Human; the Father, Mother and Child within us all; the trinities of Love, Truth and Wisdom and the Body, Mind and Spirit. Keywords associated with the triangle include: creativity, harmony, proportion, manifestation, illumination, culmination and integration.
